Holocaust Memorial Day, a day dedicated to remembering the millions of lives lost during the Holocaust and other genocides, and honouring survivors and their stories, was observed on Monday 27th January, with Councils across Scotland and public sector organisations commemorating the day locally.
COSLA's President, Councillor Shona Morrison, opened the January meeting of Council Leaders with a speech reflecting on the significance of Holocaust Memorial Day:
Before we turn to the minutes, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on the significance of Holocaust Memorial Day, a day dedicated to remembering the millions of lives lost during the Holocaust and other genocides. It’s a day to honour survivors and their stories, and to ensure that we never forget the lessons of history. As elected representatives of our communities, let us renew our commitment to standing against hate, prejudice, and discrimination in all forms, and work towards a future of understanding, tolerance, and respect for all people.
