A COSLA Spokesperson said in regard to the story today (Monday) on building standards:

"While we agree that the implications of achieving the net zero target by 2045 are profound and will impact on all aspects of society and the economy, it does not necessarily follow that a national buildings standards agency is part of the solution. If anything the long term solution to meeting the net zero target seem more likely to involve increasing decentralisation of power to local authorities and communities.

"A strong, fully empowered Local Government will be critical to our future success in tackling the climate emergency."
